The ABBA-AIG Board has been working diligently to update our constitution so it better reflects the current needs and structure of the Alumni Blue Band Association.
As part of this effort, we want to clarify the definition of membership. Under the proposed language, membership in ABBA is open to those who participated in any ensemble that performs at Penn State athletic events, including, but not limited to, the Marching Blue Band, Pride of the Lions Pep Band, Fall Athletic Band, or successor ensembles as names and programs evolve. These groups are referred to collectively as “Athletic Bands.”
This clarification is intended to remove inconsistent references in the current constitution, such as “University band programs,” “University bands,” and “Athletic bands,” which may be confusing. The updated wording makes clear that ABBA membership applies specifically to alumni of Penn State athletic band ensembles and does not extend to non-athletic ensembles such as Concert Band or Symphonic Wind Ensemble.
The proposed constitutional changes will be shared with the full membership for a vote this fall. We appreciate your attention to this important update and your continued support of ABBA-AIG.
